Synopsis

El teniente Scott Burnett, del servicio de guardacostas, sufre todavía de pesadillas provocados por el reciente recuerdo de la guerra y quiere comenzar una nueva vida tranquila y alejada de las aglomeraciones, decidido a casarse con su novia Eve.

Un día, paseando por la playa, se encuentra con una mujer, Peggy, casada con un famoso pintor de difícil carácter y enorme corpulencia, Tod Butler, que se quedó ciego tras una pelea con su esposa.

Scott y Peggy se enamoran inmediatamente, pero ella se siente culpable por la ceguera que le provocó a su marido y no esta dispuesta a abandonarlo.

Sin embargo, Scott está convencido que Ted finge su ceguera para mantener a su esposa a su lado.
