Se ha corrido la voz de que un gran alijo de heroína viene de Marsella a Nueva York.

Para "Popeye" (Gene Hackman) y "Claudy" (Roy Scheider), dos detectives de la brigada de narcóticos de Nueva York, la misión es muy concreta: descubrir el lugar del encuentro, recuperar el alijo, y desarticular a "The French Connection".
