Synopsis

Burt Lancaster es un implacable justiciero que se enfrenta solo, con todo en su contra, a una banda de asesinos en esta inteligente historia sobre la vida, la muerte y la justicia en el lejano oeste americano.

Vincent Bronson (Cobb), y sus vaqueros borrachos matan accidentalmente a un anciano en la localidad de Bannack.

Todo el mundo acepta que ha sido un accidente, menos el sheriff de Bannack, Jered Maddox (Lancaster). Maddox es un hombre de ley, duro y sin historias, y está empeñado en llevar a los autores de la muerte ante la justicia.

Maddox sigue la pista de Bronson y sus hombres hasta Sabbath, y hace una inequívoca declaración de intenciones: ´´o se vienen conmigo o los mato aquí mismo´´.
