Synopsis

El Ídolo Caído (1948) dirigida por Carol Reed, sin duda es una de las películas más destacables de este director y supone la antesala de su gran obra maestra: El tercer hombre.

El matrimonio Baines trabaja como personal de servicio en la embajada francesa de Londres. La pareja cuida de Felipe, el hijo pequeño del embajador. El señor Baines (Ralph Richardson) y el pequeño son dos compañeros de juego inseparables, todo lo contrario que la señora Baines (Sonia Dresdel), quien trata de una manera dura y autoritaria al pequeño.

Baines se enamora de una secretaria que trabaja en la embajada, pero Felipe lo descubre y a petición de su compañero de juegos promete guardar el secreto, pero la mujer se enterará de lo ocurrido por la indiscreción del pequeño. Poco después, el señor Baines es acusado de matar a su esposa, que cae por las escaleras ?accidentalmente?.
