Gordon MacRae y Shirley Jones vuelven a encontrarse en este segundo musical de Rodgers y Hammerstein TM , un nuevo clásico que narra la agridulce historia de amor de Billy (MacRae), un zalamero empleado de circo que se enamora de una obrera (Jones) en una pequeña localidad costera de Maine.

Billy muere durante un atraco antes del nacimiento de su hija, pero al cabo de los años se le ofrecerá la oportunidad de volver a la Tierra durante un día para redimirse y para ayudar a su hija a que aprenda una lección fundamental.
